In my line of work, I get to listen to the radio while working productively. The teaching of Chip Ingram was going in and out of my thoughts earlier this week. One comment was from the Gospels, "What comes out of man indicates the condition of his heart." This combined with James' comparison of the tongue with a horse, a ship and a forest provides an assessment of our heart's condition. James makes the point that if you can control your tongue, then you are positioned to control your entire body, (and its desires) as well. In the past two weeks I noticed that I paused and considered what I was about to say. A comment on the verge of expression, was not wholesome, encouraging nor necessary. So I didn't say it. Maybe my heart is changing?
